My Isolation story

My Isolation story

I think life has always been unpredictable, but the unpredictable quotient has been worst for the last one and a half years. I have been reading and listening and talking about how the covid situation affects everyone around us, our families in India. Like me, everyone around is anxious about not meeting our families, parents, living day by day. But I never expected that this could hit me too.

My daughter’s school was detected for a covid positive case, and as a result whole school, staff, students and their parents were asked to quarantine. This was so sudden. We received messages from the Victorian health department, and then it was all over, calling all friends and taking control of the situation. I wouldn’t say I panicked, but we were definitely anxious about spending 14 days inside the house ( apartment) and my daughter. Anyways kids were homeschooling, we were in lockdown, but the idea of not going out of the house for a short walk or fresh air itself was a little intimidating. So I thought to take it day by day and focus on taking care of the physical and emotional wellbeing of the family. Thankfully we didn’t have any symptoms or complaints physically.

But after a week of isolation, it started hitting little by little. In the initial first week, I planned what to do and complete my pending Work, Consultations, Cleaning the house, Studying with my daughter, watching TV. But it was getting difficult when I did all the things and now one more week to go. Now I am done with almost all the work to do, and if still pending, no interest to do it. Whatever is the situation, half an hour of walk is a part of the schedule. This gives me energy, fresh air and strengthens me mentally and emotionally. But I was not able to do it through this isolation.

During this time, I realised how important it is to cherish moment by moment in our lives. We cant take things for granted and put them for tomorrow. This Situation around the world had made us all realise to live in the moment as much as we can. To keep me sane, I started doing yoga which I recently started, and meditation with my daughter. I spent my time cooking, playing with my daughter, dancing with her, and talking to family and friends.

Small anxiety and fear still creep through the mind, and I think it will go after  I finish the 13th-day test and get the results. This has been an experience itself as we can never anticipate some situations. But on a positive note, indirectly, I was helping people around the government and me to reduce the spread of the virus through isolation and following the timely instructions by the government.

I know many of you must have been through similar situations. Do share your experiences with us.

Corona – A Boon or a Curse

I know this topic has been the most talked about and heard one. I feel this has been a boon and a curse too.

Let’s talk about Positives first.

  • We had to take a break and speculate about our life space which was lost in the daily hustle-bustle of life.
  • This gave us an excellent opportunity to differentiate between our wants and needs about every aspect of life.
  • We have learnt to value what we have and to preserve it.
  • The families have come together and spent quality time with each other.
  • This has helped to develop lovely bonds in relations.
  • We got plenty of time to ourselves so as to think and evaluate what we want in our lives and set our goals.
  • The flexibility offered for working from home gave extra time to take care of one’s health and diet.
  • As we were not allowed to go out or we were in compulsory lockdown we had to avoid unnecessary shopping which helped for saving money and use them for some other means.
  • For me, due to online schooling, I got an insight into the education method followed in my daughter’s school which initially I wasn’t aware of completely.
  • Nature got the time to breathe and heal itself over so many years of human interference.
  • People have become conscious about the diet and bad effects of more junk and outside food.
  • Animals were roaming around fearlessly as no humans to trouble them.
  • All over the world people just let go of all their worries and everyone was united for everyone.

The Negative impact of corona –

  • Many lost their loved ones to this deadly virus.
  • Many people were unable to travel and spend time with their parents, kids, loved ones which was a concern during the pandemic.
  • Many lost their jobs, had to face financial hardships due to unemployment.
  • It was a very difficult time for all kids to do homeschooling and be indoors which had an impact on their overall development.
  •  They had to let go of their precious childhood time. This had lots of emotional and physical effects on their bodies.

To conclude I would say-

We got time and space to  Reflect and Reconsider.

Respect our mother earth. Feel compassion and love for other people and animals around us. Let’s try to maintain the harmony of nature so we don’t have to face this kind of world crisis again.

I believe this Pandemic has one or the way helped everyone get a clear perspective about their lives and goals.

Sustainable Food and Sustainable therapy.

The theme of The World Food Day, which is celebrated on 16th October all over the globe is ‘Food Safety, Everyone’s Business’ for 2020. The theme aims to highlight the shared responsibility we all have towards the safety of food, starting from its production on the farm until it reaches our plates.

Sustainable eating involves selecting foods that are healthy for our bodies and the environment. This means we need to choose our foods wisely. The food which provides a balanced diet to us but also maintains the balance of the environment. These are foods grown and processed in a manner that does not harm the environment and they can meet the needs of future generations.

Our Moral responsibility for choosing the right food involves-

  • People need to follow the local diet.
  • Preference for homemade food over the processed and perishable food items.
  • Eat different types of foods.
  • A lot of people’s diet relies on a few types of dishes that limit the nutrients they can get from their food.
  • You can easily get more nutrients by diversifying the foods you eat. Because of this diverse way of eating, there is less stress on the production of one particular type of food.
  • This will help the economy and ecology of the respective countries globally.
  • Eat more plant-based foods. Today more people are opting for diets made up of plant-based foods such as nuts, beans, legumes, seeds and vegetables.
  • Grow your food. When you grow your food, it will release more oxygen in the environment and also help to absorb some carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Growing some of your food helps to cut grocery related bills, and we can avoid consuming harmful chemicals which are added to crops during production and processing.
  • Avoid Wasting Food-I think this is the most important thing which we can do easily. Today approximately 30% of the food is wasted on an average from household purchases. This is a waste of resources and money. To reduce this wastage, everyone should carefully review the food requirements of the family and only buy the required quantity.

When we are talking about sustainable food which nourishes and build our health, we can here speak about the therapy of medicine which is also sustainable therapy which is Homoeopathy.

  • Homoeopathy is the non -toxic healing form of treatment.
  • It uses significantly less quantity of medicines for their preparation. The shelf life is good and so can be used for many days.
  • It stimulates the vital energy in person with minute doses and helps to feel rejuvenated and healthy.
  • Homoeopathy helps to maintain the economic and ecological balance as the resources are readily available, natural and are not expensive.

Humans have the highest form of consciousness among all the living creatures so we can decide about how we want to utilise the food resources available to us. This thoughtful action about food safety measures and their utilisation will impact the availability of the food resources for the future generation. This is a vital part of their health and growth. Good health is always natural, and we cannot artificially produce it.

Sustainable food is always local, seasonal, traditional food. This leads to a diverse diet, and because of this various way of eating it keeps the balance of the global economy and ecology.

We should take this moral responsibility to take care of our health as well as the health of our economy and ecology by being aware and conscious of our choices towards food safety and avoiding unnecassary use of any kind of medicines.

MEN’S MENOPAUSE

Homoeopathywellness

Today we are going to talk about some lesser-known facts about men’s health.

I think women’s health issues and concerns, especially about hormonal disturbances, are commonly discussed. But there are many issues about men’s health which are not discussed so often. So today we will speak about Mens Menopause.

Men’s Menopause ( Andropause) – This is something similar to menopause in women.

  • The testosterone hormonal which is responsible for reproductive functions in men starts decreasing.
  •  The effects of this are not as well known and documented as menopause in a female.
  • They may vary depending on the changes in testosterone levels.
  • The symptoms of andropause appear more slowly and subtly and less severely than in menopause in women.
  • The decrease in the levels of the male hormone, or testosterone, is less severe than the drop in hormone levels for women throughout menopause.
  • This occurs around the age of 40 and onwards.

          Signs and symptoms:

  • Hot flashes
  • Moodiness
  • Fat build-up around the abdomen and the chest
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Dry, thin skin
  •  Changes in the behaviour pattern, irritability,
  • Excessive sweating
  • Decreased Libido
  • Erectile Dysfunctions.
  • Depressed Behaviour

  Risk factors

  • Lack of exercise
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of sleep

Diagnosis-

-The diagnosis of this condition is difficult. Still, research is needed to get the full spectrum of the andropause.

Treatment

  • Awareness about the condition
  • Taking personal care
  • Support from the spouse
  • Stress and relaxation methods
  • Good sleep
  • Healthy diet

So next time you see any male with the above symptoms it could be the hormonal changes happening in his body the same as in women.

Home
  • Physical Wellness
  • Emotional /Mental Wellness
  • Spiritual Wellness
  • Social Wellness

We take care of our Physical Wellness but in current situations Emotional, Spiritual. Social Wellness plays a very important role.

This can be achieved by:

  •  Supporting each other, talking with each other, healthy communications.
  •  This will help us to face these difficult times together and conquer it with our efforts together.
  • It’s time to be thankful and express our gratitude towards ourselves and our loved ones.
  •  Let’s be in the present moment and give full attention to what is in front of us, appreciate it and rest of the things will fall naturally in its place.

The key to Wellness is ‘Understanding YOUR Body’.

  • At some point in our life it’s OK to be NOT OK.
  • You don’t have to feel and look fine always.

Eye Health And Kids

Eyes Health and Kids

My daughter had some eye allergy when we were travelling to India. When we got it checked by the  ophthalmologist  she said it’s allergy. After complete eye check up we came to know she needs glasses for far vision. I was wondering why we couldn’t  know about this problem early. She never complained of any eye symptoms.

I had got her eye check up done before 6 months in Melbourne. We realized as in Melbourne we don’t have black board reading and writing from far distance. It’s mostly on Ipads / Laptops so this problem was never seen.

Let’s talk today about –

Eye complaints in Children.

  1. Eye allergies ( Conjunctivitis) This is the commonest problem kids have.
  2. Redness of eyes
  3. Itching of eyes
  4. Dryness of eyes
  5. Farsightedness( Hyperopia)
  6. Nearsightedness ( Myopia)

Causes of eye problems-

  1. Deficiency Vit A ,E, B12.
  2. Due to dust.
  3. Strain on eyes due to screen time.
  4. Eye infections.
  5. Hay fevers etc.

Precautions to be taken –

  • Eat well
  • Green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and collards
  • Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish
  • Eggs, nuts, beans, and other non meat protein sources
  • Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices
  • Oysters and pork
  • If your eyes are dry, blink more.
  • Rest your eyes every 20 minutes. Look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Get up at least every 2 hours and take a 15-minute break.
  • The role of food rich in antioxidants is very important as it protects eyes against the free radicals.

The Importance of Eye Exams-

Due to the increase in screen time  we should consult an ophthalmologist every year for the thorough kids eye check up.

Even if your pediatrician doesn’t see a problem, there may be other signs that your child needs a more thorough eye exam

Some of the indications  can be as follows

  • Poor school performance.
  • Not wanting to go to school.
  • Difficulty paying attention.
  • Difficulty when reading and writing.
  • Trouble seeing information on the chalkboard.
  • Blurry or double vision.
  • Headaches or eye pain.
  • Taking longer than normal to complete homework.

Eyes are the most beautiful gift through which we can enjoy and cherish this beautiful world around us.

Take GOOD care of your eye.

Eczema – Skin Ailments

Eczema

Today let’s talk about something very important. We will talk about Skin Ailments specially Eczema.

Definition- Eczema – Skin Ailments  ( Atopic Dermatitis) –

Eczema means Inflammation and Irritation of skin caused by different factors.

It is the hyperactive response of the body’s immune system to the allergens.

Causes

 1) Allergic conditions like Asthma ,Hay fever.

 2) Family heredity traits.

 3) Allergens as extreme cold weather, food, soaps, detergents.

Conventional Treatment

  • Generally this tendency is controlled by application of ointments, creams, lotions, and some anti -allergic medicines.
  • In extreme cases steroid based creams and oral medicines are prescribed.

 Consequences –

  • Have we ever thought what kind of long term damage is done specially in kids when we use steroids ointments and specially oral medicine?
  • They give you temporary relief but suppress the body response.
  • When you take steroids based medicines it relieves your symptoms superficially but pushes the disease inside your body from the skin.
  • These medicines basically suppress your immune system.
  • It is very commonly observed that these cases of skin progress to more serious diseases like Asthma,Bronchitis, Autoimmune disorders which need life long treatment.

Health levels-

  • Mental
  • Emotional
  • Physical
  • Mental level is the deepest of all and Physical is the outer one.
  • If we don’t suppress our physical complaints by excess n unnecessary use of medicines we will be saved at our Mental level which is the most important part of our health to be in Balance and Harmony.

Precautions-

  • Few simple things which can really save lots of health issues to progress further.
  • When you are diagnosed with some skin conditions try not to apply any creams specially the steroid based
  • Try to find out the allergens causing it.
  • You can keep a diary and see what food or other agents are causing it.
  • Consult the physician when needed.
  • Try to use Natural ways of treatment before you start with steroids, anti -allergic medicines.

If we try to avoid use of unnecessary medicines and creams you can keep  your  immune system really strong.
